WEEK 5 IN IRELAND

We’re over the halfway hurdle! I’ve been having such a great time over here, and the thought of having to go back to “normal” life back in Maryville after this doesn’t seem real.

Working at Escalate has been an amazing experience. It’s been unlike any other place I’ve ever worked for (in a good way!). The organizational culture is much more relaxed. They understand that people have lives, and we don’t just live to work. Bosses don’t really care whether or not employees work from home or at the office, and it doesn’t matter as much what time you arrive. As long as your work gets done when it needs to, that’s what matters. Additionally, many people around our workplace wear totally casual clothes, which I really enjoy. As long as we’re not meeting with clients, there’s no need for us to dress up, so the fact that they don’t force employees to dress business formal or even business casual every day is nice. The employees all seem to get along well, which makes work even more enjoyable.

The tasks I have been assigned throughout my internship have been fun and allowed for me to explore my creative side. I would say it is meaningful work because it’s real content that is being put on our clients’ social media. While I am enjoying the work I am doing and the people here, I don’t know if I would want to do this as a full-time job. I want a job that allows me to travel for work, and when I do finally settle down (after I’ve gotten to see more of the world, so maybe when I’m 30), I think I would want to be somewhere in the States (like Oregon) or maybe Canada.

Once again, outside of my internship, I’ve been keeping busy! On Saturday this past weekend, 3 of my friends and I went to Belfast to see the Titanic Museum, Dunluce Castle, and Giant’s Causeway (Below are pictures from our Belfast trip!). Monday, we celebrated the 4th of July by having a buffet and playing games in the social lounge of our student accommodations. It was a blast! Tonight, a group of us are going to some pubs. Then on Saturday, a group of about 15 of us are going to Galway and staying the night there. The Galway vs Derry football match is on Saturday, so the nightlife should be great craic!

I’m excited to share more stories in the coming weeks. I am ready to see my family back home, but I’m also not quite ready to leave. I’m definitely going to make the most of these last few weeks!
